Rotavirus is a double-stranded RNA virus that typically causes diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. It is the leading cause of diarrhea in infants and young children. Large amounts of the virus are shed in the stools of infected people; this contaminated stool can easily spread to hands and objects. Although there is no medicine that will kill rotavirus, treatment options are available to relieve symptoms of the illness while the body fights the infection.
