Young children are often given the rotavirus vaccine (Rotarix®, RotaTeq®) as part of a routine childhood vaccination schedule. The vaccine is used to protect against rotavirus, a virus that causes severe diarrhea and can lead to hospitalization. There are currently two versions of this vaccine; it is given by mouth as two or three doses (depending on the particular product).
